Private Speech Pathology and Private Health Insurance

Accessing Speech Pathology Privately

You don't need to have an NDIS plan or Medicare referral to access Speech Pathology.

You can simply choose to access therapy privately and book directly with Connected Speech Therapy.

Private Speech Pathology can be a great option if you:

  • aren't eligible for NDIS funding

  • don't have a Medicare referral

  • have used your available Medicare-funded sessions

  • would prefer not to use a funding scheme

  • want to start therapy without waiting for a funding application or referral

  • have private health insurance that provides Speech Pathology extras cover.

Do I Need a Referral?

Nope!

You can contact Connected Speech Therapy directly to access private Speech Pathology. You don't need a referral from your GP, paediatrician or another health professional.

We'll talk with you about what you're hoping to get support with and determine whether our service is a good fit for you or your child.

Can I Claim Speech Pathology Through Private Health Insurance?

Many Australian private health insurers provide rebates for Speech Pathology under Extras or ancillary cover.

Whether you're eligible — and how much you can claim — depends on your insurer, level of cover, annual limits and the Speech Pathology service provided.

We recommend contacting your health fund before your appointment and asking:

“Does my Extras policy cover Speech Pathology delivered via telehealth, and what rebate would I receive for my appointment?”

How Does Payment Work?

Private clients pay the appointment fee directly.

You'll receive an invoice and receipt containing the relevant Speech Pathology service information. If your private health policy covers the service, you can then submit your claim to your health insurer according to their claiming process.

Any private health rebate is determined by your individual insurer and policy.
