Medicare for Stuttering & Speech Sound Difficulties

Medicare funding is now available for eligible children and young people with:

• Stuttering

• Speech sound disorders

• Cleft lip and/or palate

Eligible clients can receive Medicare rebates towards Speech Pathology assessment and therapy.

How do I access it?

Start by speaking with your GP or relevant medical specialist.

You can let them know that your child has speech or stuttering concerns and ask:

“Could my child be eligible for Medicare-funded Speech Pathology?”

If eligible, your doctor can provide the appropriate referral.

Once you have your referral, simply send it through to us and we'll help you with the next steps.

How does payment work?

You'll pay for your Speech Pathology appointment and receive the documentation needed to claim your eligible Medicare rebate.

Medicare provides a rebate towards the cost of the appointment, so an out-of-pocket cost may still apply.
